MY EPITHALAMIUM TO THEMBI!

My Epithalamium To Thembi

Love is life's mustard seed,

crafted to preamble us at conception:

hidden deep inside a mother's womb.

Love, a first after the first beat

began to drum up the foetal heart:

a microcosm of life in progress.

Love, infusion of life inside a tiny blob,

a scintillating, exhilarating dance

between man's seed and an egg.

As in a dream, in a flash, one day;

under the blue skyed morning,

she dashed before my eyes:

I staggered with hidden admiration.

My mind didn't notice immediately,

as my heart pulsated in blizzard beats:

leaving me bleeding and wryly smitten.

A simple greeting, and honest handshake,

followed by candid smiles and muted joy,

I had to look on as she turned to go.

A new sun, new moon and new stars,

had been created and added that day:

when two worlds collided and formed

a new clime and new cosmos for two.

I saw beauty, touched and breathed love,

my world commixed and cranked up in high

ovulated pitch of sweet dreams accrued:

Cupid had cracked open my love chest.

Love, like a baby's lungs and cry at birth,

designed to break-open just once:

goosebumps and delirious chutzpah,

all happen but once in a lifetime.

Now I understand the four things

that puzzled and awed King Solomon.

the way of an eagle in the air,

the way of a serpent upon a rock,

the way of a ship in the midst of the sea;

and the way of a man with a maid.

God ordained the latter to man,

signed, sealed and delivered:

to be cracked open by Cupid:

once the same man comes of age.

Though now bereft, battered and

blinded by the sand dunes of time:

life's radar keeps me on course through

this labyrinth of ever cascading waves:

Relenting, I press on and glide forward.

COMMENTS FROM THE AUTHOR:

I wrote this Nostalgic Love Effusion for my former wife, Thembi. Oh, how she loves it! Really, how dare you? Hello, what do you know about life? My indelible footprints left inside the sands of time can only be seen, understood and interpreted through the words I leave behind for generations to come. I owe it to them and not to this untoward generation! You guys just gloat over my lines without understanding a single word I’m writing because everything to you is entertainment. But my words, nah. I can’t run away from my shadows because each one represents a page of my life and history.

I told you before, that I write for a generation of grandchildren still locked up inside the loins of 3rd Graders of each year God keeps me alive. This is a generation which will be sophisticated enough to catch the gist hidden inside my words. This is a generation that will be able to track my horizon and all the corners of the shadows of my life: through my words. I am the sum of all my words. I can only thank God for the power of words He invested in my heart. Can you spot my figure as I criss-cross through the walls of my words like a playful ghost? Everything you see, hear or feel in these corridors reflects my life and footprints inside the sands of time!”
