DEAR MIRROR!

Dear Mirror!

I shall not forget the day my mother introduced us to each other. Your looks gave me one hell of a fright: we looked too identical! I almost jumped out of my baby skin.

Come on now my friend, you could have felt the same way as the baby I was inside! Stop giggling and listen to me.

Among all the friends I have had in this world, nobody can rival our friendship, living or dead.

Every time I walk into my room, there you are: still smiling at me sweetly after all these years.

You have a true definition of reliable companionship. I do not know how you do it! Occasionally, I left my room to run errands, work, or visit the city or church.

No matter what I do and wherever I go, you are always there waiting for me like the good old friend that you have always been.

I see you in my hotel rooms, and even when I am visiting relatives and friends. Your omnipresence is mind boggling.

I see your face painted all over my landscape, there is no hiding from your sharp eyes.

I see you patched on the buildings, skyscrapers, windows all over the city. Every time you whisper to me how beautiful I look for your eyes.

I spent decades arguing with your perfect judgement regarding my overall appearance.

Dear mirror. Tell you what, I cannot recall any single day when you laughed at me because I had gained weight. Walking with you is sweeter than the sunshine.

My mother knew she would not be there for me all the time; hence she introduced me to you.

I believe most people in the world today would not venture outdoors if they heeded your mouth-watering whispers. I will give it to you, my friend!

After all these decades together, you have perfected how to synchronize your gesturing with mine.

Hahaha! How can I forget the day I joined the crowds of mad shoppers for a crazy rush into a department store during their annual popular sale?

I had all these fat and crazy ladies pushing me like a twig as I tried to pick up memorable items I could take home.

Did I succeed? Nope. Instead, I ended up with a tiny tight suit which I took home, even against your friendly advice.

Dear mirror. Are you laughing at me? Only God knows how sad I was after wearing that tight-fitting suit once to church. I had to give it away, what a shame!

If my friend’s friends say I am okay with my bulging stomach, who needs a mirror to judge them? Sadly, this is the modus operandi of all the denialists of this world.

I believe this world would be a better place if we had fashion police at the ready to arrest all the wardrobe-busters.

Dear mirror. It is hard for me to imagine living this life without you. God appointed you only second after Mother Nature, to better and improve our looks as the forever coach.

Even rivers, dams, ponds, and the deep blue sea; acknowledge your presence. Why we have so many stubborn and rebellious people in this world, I do not know!

These individuals see you every single day, but they have perfected the craft of living in perfect denial and oblivion.

Dear mirror. Thank you for all the bliss we shared!
