 Praise Singing and Tribute For My Late Brother

Mhlangabezi Welcome Gutyungwa (09/10/1960 - 03/10/2022)

Welcome is the last big brother of mine to pass away this time around... I have lost three big brothers within the space of four years. This then puts me on the pedestal to lead the flock of my late father, Fuyizizwe William Gutyungwa. I have always led from the front even when my big brother, Fanyana Gutyungwa was still alive. Welcome is the second son of my father, and I am the fourth. I apologize profusely once more, to all and sundry; for writing this Tribute in my Xhosa Language... it can only make sense if I stick to our tradition. This is one of those hardest times for me to write in English because every word of my narrative is thought out after my Xhosa Traditional Waves!

LITAXA-TAXA LIKA TATA ELI!

Kuz’ kubekho Mna, imbewu kaTata yangqubana neqanda lobom esibelethweni sikaMama, kwabakho intshukumo yogqabho-dubul’ eyandulel’ ukubola okweza nempilo yaba ngubom kum… ndazalwa nam!

Izol’ elinye, xeshekweni… wazalwa qange uMkhuluwe wam, ephum’ ekubolen’ okwaba yimpilo kuye. Wancanc’ ebeleni likaMama wandishiyela olwabisi lwasenz’ amadoda obom kweli limagad’ ahlabayo!

UMhlangabezi ubeyindoda enganamava, engena nkathalo kwisini nemicimbi yasebu hlantini! Mhlangabezi, kuzakubakhw’ umanyano apho kuzabe kuthethwa ngemicimbi yekhaya, uze ubekho nawe! Into kaMhlangabezi ibivel’ imomotheke ukunkcum’ okosan’ olubomvana lungevanga nto! Ewe, umntu nomntu unendlela yakhe abona ngayo, ave ngayo, enze iizinto ngokuthanda kwakhe ebe engenanxa namntu… nguMhlangabezi ke lowo.

UMhlangabezi ubengafani namany’ Amakhwenkwe kaTata kwisini! UMhlangabezi ubeli Taxa-Taxa likaTata… Mhlangabezi, izapha kwedini… bekutheni ngoku, eliTaxa-Taxa lenkwenkwe? … utshil’ uTata uFuyizizwe ekhwaza ngomsindo odibene nokufutheka. Madakeni, Madakeni, jikela ngapha kwedini… kutsho utat’ uMakalima obengumelwane.

UMhlangabezi ubengafani namany’ Amakhwenkwe kaTata kwisini! UMhlangabezi ubeli Taxa-Taxa likaTata… inkwenkwe kaTata ibingena nkathalo, eliliqital’ lemvelo lingenantloni noba engxoliswa, edwanguz’ egxadazel’ enkcum’ okosan’ lungevanganto!

Mkhuluwe, ndinento kunyanzeke sinkcokole ngayo malunga nekhaya leth’ kuKomane kulandlunkulu kaMzayifani, Tamkulu wethu… ungaba nal’ ixesha ndiku balisele ngalomba? Hehehe, itsho ihlek’ into kaMhlangabezi, afulathel’ ukundishiya ndi ndandathekile… liTaxa-Taxa likaTata eli!

UMhlangabezi ubengafani namany’ Amakhwenkwe kaTata kwisini! UMhlangabezi ubeliTaxa-Taxa likaTata! Into ebikude kuxelwa ngayo, ibingento kuMhlangabezi, ibingekho kwasengqondweni… akaz’ phakamisa nomnwe lo uMhlangabezi akuhoye avungam’ intw’ engavakali… liTaxa-Taxa likaTata eli!

Ekudleni, ewe, siyatya grithi… etywaleni… sapha lobhekile ndingcamle… singena sifohloza nange ngqriniba! UMhlangabezi ubengafani namany’ Amakhwenkwe kaTata kwisini! UMhlangabezi ubeliTaxa-Taxa likaTata!

Ekuzalweni kwakh’ uMhlangabezi, kwabakh’ intswantla yolonwabo! Bambi bexhentsa, kwaculwa kujakadulwa, kuba uFuyizizwe uzalelw’ indodana enguMhlangabezi… Igazi legazi yembew yakhe!

Kodwa namhlanje singuMzi kaFuyizizwe kaMzayifani Gutyungwa, zizajwili zodwa, siyalila thina bantliziyo zityumzekileyo…. Sidakumbile sonzakel’ emoyeni, siqhuliswa bubu hlungu bunkekezelayo; bokusweleka kweNkwenkwe kaTata, iTaxa-Taxa elingu Madakeni noNyana wesibini kaFuyizizwe!

Lala ngoxolo Mhlangabezi! Faf’ olude lweNkwenkwe kaTata edyushuzel’ okwenxila libuya kusela… ugqats’ ulufezile! Elakho litshonile mntakwethu, masidibane ngoMso lakukhala iXilongo nangeMini eNkulu yoMgwebo!

Nkomo zikaJenge, zikaMzondi, zikaXushe, zikaDuli, zikaNdzutha: Nkomo zikaNyekwayo, zikaGxabha, zikaMpulane, zikaTshutshu; Nkomo zikaZiyeka, zikaSampu, zikaGabadela… Lala ngoxolo Mhlangabezi! Nyana kaFuyizizwe, kaMzayifani, kaBaklein! Hlumela likaKhokho nentsika yomzikazi Joseph Gutyungwa! Obenzolo Taxa-Taxa likaTata… Myirh’ omhle, tambo lenyoka lihlab’ elimzondayo!   Between The Ears! Hearing in a newborn baby, is one of the earliest activated senses... even before this baby could see. Words get spoken out and start to reverberate around the head and get trapped between the ears before they make sense to the brain. Babies, learn to interpret sign language and by reading lips ahead of understanding the language spoken in their homes. Is it not amazing and refreshing that we learned to smile after seeing our mothers demonstrate their warm smiles and mimicked them joyfully kicking with all fours? Between the ears...
